Is this a viable idea?

The server computes the hashes of the encrypted files and sends this
to the client. The client encrypts every file and computes the hashes
of the (locally) encrypted files. In this way the actual integrity of
the files on the server is checked and very little information is
transfered.

This may be useful if the internet connection is very slow and the
local computer has enough cpu to spare to be able to encrypt and
compute the checksum for every file.
