The bad news is that the client is currently failing on at least three platforms, and the tests are always failing (usually the bbackupd test). https://www.boxbackup.org/trac/build/Trunk has the details (once you're logged in to Trac - this information is currently only available to admins and build host owners because hostnames/IP addresses are revealed). I'm going to skip the November snapshot and try and do one mid-December, if the issues can be fixed. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news in the run-up to Christmas! At least some of the build failures seem to be caused by docbook errors. I had this problem as well and had to patch my Makefile on Windows to touch the files after trying (and failing) to generate them with xsltproc. I'm not so sure that it's a good idea to always build them, but I couldn't see an easy way to make them only as part of the distribution process. Would you mind having a look into that? > I'm going to skip the November snapshot and try and do one mid-December, > if the issues can be fixed. > > Sorry to be the bearer of bad news in the run-up to Christmas! Yes, I noticed that and I think I fixed the majority of it, but CentOS is still having issues. Per - would you be able to install the docbook-xsl package on your machine? Otherwise it has to use the DocBook Stylesheet via HTTP which is very slow. > I had this problem as well and had to patch my Makefile on Windows to > touch the files after trying (and failing) to generate them with > xsltproc. My only other thought was to have a separate make target for the docs, but it was easier at the time to just hook it into the main targets. I'll see if I can create separate {client,server}-docs targets. Is it the same problem as CentOS that you have on Windows? If so, are you able to install the DocBook stylesheets locally on your dev machine? Would it be possible to add a Windows machine to Trac's build? I can setup a Windows VM to do it if need be. > > I'm going to skip the November snapshot and try and do one mid-December, > > if the issues can be fixed. > > > > Sorry to be the bearer of bad news in the run-up to Christmas! > > Seems like a good idea, but I don't know when I'll have the time to look > at it further. It wasn't a demand for a fix, sorry if it sounded like one. Just making sure you're aware of problems and of the build system. If it can use online stylesheets then I'm surprised that the build failed, as I did have internet access at the time. Do you know anything about the error message "Note: No refentry elements found in """? No, that's fine, if you're happy to provide them. The build agent doesn't have to run continuously, it can be run as a single-run (either from cron or manually). Feel free to drop me the details off-list if you want me to set them up, or you can do it yourself from the Trac admin page - just add a new platform to the trunk build. Thanks! I'm not entirely sure, but I think it's related to the problem we saw quite a while back on the Trac server - I think downloading the stylesheet multiple times causes problems as it's quite large. Building the man pages using a remote stylesheet takes minutes rather than seconds. > It should certainly be possible on any machine with cygwin, although I'm > not sure how to hook the Trac buildbot into Cygwin's environment. If you > could provide a VM that would be very helpful, as I only occasionally > start mine when I'm doing Windows development work. It doesn't need to "hook" really - it's just a Python app which downloads instructions on how to build from the Trac server. If it's the same procedure as a regular Unix client then it should "just work". It's not quite the same because the Python app woulnd't normally just be able to run "make" or "gcc", for example; it should probably run them through Cygwin's bash.exe with the correct environment set up. Can we define custom build commands for the buildbot to use on a particular platform such as Windows? Yep, that's the idea. Either run it manually from Cygwin, or (if this is possible) through a cron job in Cygwin. You could create a wrapper shell script around bitten-slave to do any Windows-specific environment setup before connecting to the master. I use a simple shell script on my machines just so I don't have to type the args all the time - ./go is much easier than bitten-slave -u xxx -p xxx -d build -l build.log http://...... :-) - but the basic principle is there that you could do a similar thing to tidy up or setup before starting or finishing. > Can we define custom build commands for the buildbot to use on a > particular platform such as Windows? Can you let me know where it installs docbook.xsl? The Makefile currently looks under: * /usr/local/share/xsl/docbook/manpages/ * /opt/local/share/xsl/docbook-xsl/manpages/ but I'm guessing CentOS will probably drop the local/ part. Thanks. Yep, these are the problems with xsltproc, which is why I'm currently advising people to install docbook-xsl locally when building from trunk. I'll see if I can find out why this is so ridiculously slow. Can you enlighten me as to what a single dash (-) means in a column of the build bot table (https://www.boxbackup.org/trac/build/Trunk)? Does it mean that the build worked, or that it was never built? Because I swear "FreeBSD 7.1 amd64" was in the process of building r2407 earlier, but now all I have in that column is the dash. Great, thanks. Should speed = things up a bit. Can you let me know where

The easiest way to fix it is to chmod 0777 /tmp/bitten* && rm -rf /tmp/bitten*. Chris fixed this, so recent builds should no longer be doing this. It means that there are /currently/ no results for that changeset - you can invalidate a build to force it to rebuild. I think I did that for a changeset last night, but I can't remember which one now, so it was probably that one. This may be a red herring, but having just updated MacPorts on my OS X build machine (and thus updating docbook-xsl and xmlcatmgr), the man pages now build fine. It could be that the DocBook I created the documentation against is too new for some systems. I'm not entirely sure at the moment...
