[Box Backup] compiling on ubuntu breezy

I don't use Ubuntu, or GCC4, but I know that the Gentoo ebuild adds the 
argument "compile:-DPLATFORM_GCC3" to the configure step for GCC4, which 
might help. It's also described previously on the list here:
