No, links are not used in bbstored. And that wouldn't cause your  
problem anyway.

If it's not a dodgy disc, then it's dodgy filesystem code in your OS  
kernel. Userland programs cannot mess up a filesystem to create files  
which are larger than the disc they're writing to.
