Within a few ms (according to ntp.  one is syncing off the other).
They are certainly synced within a second according to the 'date'
command run on both "at the same time".

I did... no further information was written into /var/log/messages.  I
only get:
Jan 29 11:31:13 ayup bbstored[21189]: Incoming connection from 10.10.100.3 port 42726 (handling in child 21195)
Jan 29 11:31:13 ayup bbstored[21195]: in server child, exception Connection TLSHandshakeFailed (7/30) -- terminating child
