Would it be possible for you to use a mail client that knows how to quote 
replies properly? Reformatting your replies is painful :(

It won't help you if you change the config. It should (rightly) discard 
the saved info if the timestamp on the config file changes.

Perhaps I'm not seeing the problem here? There shouldn't be an issue in 
restarting bbackupd occasionally, when you really do change the config. I 
would strong recommend not starting/stopping it all the time, and not 
running multiple copies at the same time. It's designed to run as a 
background process. You can disable automatic backups and use bbackupctl 
to trigger a backup when you want it. If necessary, we can make it 
automatically detect when the config file has changed and discard its 
cached state.
